The Altstadt is the Old Town part of Dusseldorf and it is located
between the river Rhine and the street named Heinrich Heine Allee,
which is in the heart of Dusseldorf. The area is pedestrianised
and is renowned as the Longest Bar in the World and it is a place
where most of the outdoor events happen around here, for example
the Altstadt Herbst Festival is the September Festival that happens
in this part of Dusseldorf.
Tourists mix with locals in this beautiful part of the city, where
the finest restaurants from all parts of the worlds are located,
as well as local cuisine. One can also visit the trendy as well
as traditional pubs that are littered around this quarter.
Go for a nice walk along the Rheinuferpromenade, where the views
are great of the houses of Oberkassel which is across the Rhein
River, or why not just relax and chill out on a bench. Taking the
U-Bahn is a good way to venture into the Altstadt.
When looking for beautiful sights in the Altstadt area, see the
Schlossturm tower in Burgplatz as well as the Stadt Erhebungsdenkmal
which has a documented history of the city, and also look out for
Jan WellemReiter Denkmal on horse back on the Rathaus Platz. One
can also catch a boat for a lovely sightseeing tour from the rivers
promenade and these boats visit places like Bonn, Koln, as well
as Kaiserswerth.
The Stadt Museum is also worth a look around especially around Bilker
Strasse and Hohe Strasse, with its streets full of lovely antique
shops, galleries, pubs, restaurants and lined with 18th century
patrician houses on beautiful cobbled streets. A monument of the
poet Heinrich Heine stands at the end of Bilker Strasse.
