Architecture in Dusseldorf

The three layered Thyssen building dating back to the 1950s and the white piano shaped theatre from the 1970’s are very exciting to see. Also the Carsch House was taken down in the 1980s and moved 25 metres away because of the underground, and also the Oberkasseler bridge was constructed 50 metres away from its current position and then was later moved.

The Landtag is the regional parliament building which was finished in 1988 and the Rheinturm is 234 metres high where one can visit the restaurant at the top of the tower with its fantastic view and its high prices. One can also see the glass column that is the Stadt Tor, Its an office building so don’t hesitate to call in because its spectacular. There is a path left of the building which leads to a back entrance.

Walk down this driveway and one comes across the light blue building that you see is the West German Broadcasting building, which was finished in 1991. Look towards the left and one will see the three strangely angled buildings - the Gehry buildings. Frank O Gehry, a Canadian, designed the Guggenheim building in Bilbao and 160 welfare flats in Frankfurt. Also don’t forget about media-mile which also houses more broadcasting complexes with modern architecture. Make sure you sneak a peak!
