The Altstadt area will provide bar after bar to keep your thirst
quenched. You will find the old style pubs where the owners in blue
aprons with a leather belt purse serving you in their usual cool
manner, and you can order a grilled leg of pork to keep yourself
constantly thirsty.
Take the U-bahn (underground) or else a taxi to Heinrich Heine Allee/Altstadt,
where the pedestrian zone starts and head to the Bolker strasse.
When the weather is good, all the tables come out onto the streets
and on the right is Im Goldenen Kessel which serves Schumacher Alt
bier which has a great atmosphere.
Next pub to visit is the Zum Schlussel, which seves Gatzweiler Alt
and has a great choice of food. When finished here, take a left
out the door and walk up towards the Rathausplatz, which has a big
square with a statue of Jan Willem on horseback, the man who formed
the brewers guild in 1713.
Zum Uerige is a real busy brewery and one can relax outside sipping
a beer. Very friendly atmosphere here. Just outside the Uerige is
the Killepitsch where you will get a nice schnapps to round off
your session. If you feel like more beer, fun and laughter, go to
Im Fuchschen on Ratinger Strasse - the ultimate German beer bar
experience. Then walk along the promenade, past the Stadt Erhebungs
Denkmal and shortly afterwards turn right into a cobbled street
called the Altstadt.
