Districts of Dusseldorf

The Harbour(Hafen)
Go down towards the Rheinuferpromenade and then past the 234 metre high Rheinturm Telecom tower, and you will end up at the harbour. The harbour was once a very busy place but has changed and now its not so much famous for its boats, but very popular because of it being the new trendy area of the city. The harbour area has attracted all the hi-tech media companies such as broadcasters and production companies, and has been known as the media mile. The Stadt Tor, which is a glass column gate to the city was built in 1998. Also beautiful buildings in this area were designed by the architect who built the Guggenheim museum in Barcelona, and are worth a look.

BILK
The student quarter is around the Bilk S-Bahnhof (street train) which is located between the University and the town. Loads of second hand bookshops and all kinds of little shops in the area.

Konigsallee/Hofgarten
The Konigsallee is famous for designer shops where one can find all the designer labels of the world. Its a must for all fashion conscious trendy sorts. Also worth seeing is the listed Thyssen Haus, which is a slender 3 layered building next door to the White coloured Dusseldorf Schauspiel Haus which is shaped like a piano. When strolling through Hofgarten, one sees the Theater museum and the Jagerhof which has the Goethe Collection inside.

Oberkassel
The locals love to watch the sun coming down behind the fantastic facade of Oberkassel. When the sun sets, walk to the Overkasseler Bridge, take a tram, and get out at the other side of the river and take a stroll along the banks of the Rhine - where one can go shopping along the Lugallee or even notice a flock of sheep in this area.

Kaiserswerth is a fantastic looking historic site, and on became part of Dusseldorf in 1929. One can get here by car or tram, and the locals use it as a recreation area. One can stroll around the ruins of the castle along the river Rhine, take a relaxing break in one of the nearby beer gardens or market cafes, or why not spoil yourself with a three star meal by Jean Claude Bourgueil.

Benrath
This is where the 18th century palace is located. It is about 10 kilometres from the city centre. The Palace has a lovely pond and gardens. It was once the home of Theodor zu Pfalz.
