Kaiserswerth Tour Dusseldorf

This was once an island where a monarch’s home was built. Only fragments remind you of the 12th century residence. The castle that was built here was demolished by explosion in 1702. This area has now being revamped with cobbled streets, gas lights and lovely restored houses. Take the U79 over to Klemens platz and walk down Kaiserswerther Markt, and take a right into An dem Hohen Wall, and at the end of this alley, there is a museum of the towns history. Florence Nightingale resided here.

Go straight past the school and you will come across Theodor Fliedner Church, the founder of Diakonissenwerk, an early social welfare organisation, preached here, and then take a left and this will bring you onto Kaiserswerther Markt where you can chill out in one of its cafes. The buildings around the market are impressive. Also there is an old customs house, and a former weaving mill.

When you cross the market near the Rhine and turn left into Dauzenberg strasse, you will see the St. Suitbertus Church which is located in the middle of the 17th/18th century square. when leaving the square towards the Rhine, turn left and you will get a glimpse of the castle. Take a walk along the Rhine, or just watch the frigates move up the Rhine.

A romantic walk is to be found at the Barbarossa Wall which is just across from the Im Ritter pub and its a lovely tree lined alleyway. One can also change sides or get a ferry until late. And if walking is not on the agenda, try the beer gardens in Im Ritter and at the Burghof, and there is a great restaurant at Im Schiffchen.
