For an interesting trip outside Dusseldorf, visitors should take a outing to the nearby city of Cologne. This is a magnificent city for visitors of all tastes, as it boasts a rich history combined with a youthful population. The city is home to many impressive cathedrals and churches, and it is internationally renowned for many of its museums and galleries. The city is also known for its vibrant club and live music scenes. Cologne is home to a huge number of wonderful restaurants and cafes, and its shopping areas mix large department stores with small, unusual boutiques.

Xanten City

A city close to Düsseldorf, which is well worth a visit, is the historic and beautiful Xanten. This is one of the oldest cities in Germany and it boasts numerous fascinating historical landmarks and museums. The city was founded by Roman Emperor Trajan close to AD 100. The interesting Archaeological Park offers visitors a glimpse through the city’s history, while the beautifully restored city centre is well worth exploring. One of the most impressive areas in Xanten is Altstadt, which boasts the stunning Dom St Viktor, built in both Romanesque and Gothic styles.
