Duisburg is a port city in the very West of Germany in the state of the Rhine-Westphalia. It is the largest inland harbour in Europe although it is considered a seaport. The city was almost completely destroyed by the bombing during the Second World War and is for most part a modern city having lost most of its historic buildings. The Town hall was repaired to its one hundred year old original status. The Salvatorkirche is the best church in the city with origins that date to the ninth century and an interesting architectural history that culminated in the sixties restoration. Hambron Abbey in the north of the city remains in its original status of nine hundred years ago.
